Katie’s Branding Session

Photographing another photographer can always be nerve wracking but so much fun. I love working with other people in the industry. Loving and supporting other professionals makes this job so much more fun.

Katie, of K. E. Rogers Photography, came to my studio for a full branding session. She started with hair and makeup by Meghan and Dana of Gals and Ghouls. Having a full package including hair and makeup elevates the entire experience. You can start your session with some bubbly, sit in the chair, listen to music, and let the professionals take care of you to be “camera ready".” After hair and makeup was done we went through her outfit options! Katie brought outfits that reflected her branding colors as well as outfits that she would wear to work/in real life.

The right outfits can totally make or break your photo session. With branding sessions, its important to remember what your messaging is and what you are representing. Are you professional and tight or are you warm and welcoming? Are you someone that is super comfortable and approachable? Can someone get a vague idea of what you do based on your outfit? These are all things to consider. Katie picked dresses in her branding colors and an all black outfit with pants - which is super common for wedding photographers as we pick outfits that allow us to look professional, comfortable to work all day, yet also hide any potential sweat marks as we run around and work!

I love how Katie brought her camera to show off what she does in her branding session. She is the face of her brand and the camera is her main tool she uses for her job.

Katie’s photography style has a much warmer tone than my work. When I photograph branding sessions, I edit each photo to look true to color, crisp, and true. As Katie’s branding is warmer, we included warmer elements so the photos reflected her style and personality. Her clothing not only has her brand colors but are warmer tones. The chair we had Katie sit in was warm toned. We also planned the session for later in the afternoon with more harsh sun to have warmer light in the studio to work with too.
