5 Detroit Locations For Engagement Photos

Detroit has a variety of locations that are unique in design for a variety of backdrops. Taking engagement photos in downtown Detroit is one of my favorite things. You can be in one spot and have multiple backdrop options for photos. When asked where to go for engagement photos, I have a few go to spots that make fore fun and timeless engagement photos.

Here are 5 locations in Downtown Detroit:

1.CAPITOL PARK

Downtown a few blocks over from Campus Martius is Capitol Park. With Restaurants, coffee shops and bars, this area is so much fun to hangout in the middle of the city. There is a dog park and lots of outdoor seating with string lights strung from lamp post to lamp post. It is a fun spot in the city to get a perfect city vibe photo.

2. PARKERS ALLEY

Parkers Alley is next to Shinola Hotel in downtown Detroit. Down this alley are local shops, including Huddle Soft Serve and Madcap Coffee. Taking portraits down here can be super fun, but can also be super busy with a crowd on a weekday evening with everyone enjoying the city. I highly recommend ending your engagement session in Detroit with Soft Serve Ice Cream at Huddle down Parkers Alley.

3.BELLE ISLE

Belle Isle is a large island between Detroit and Canada. From The Aquarium and Conservatory to it’s lighthouses and beaches, Belle Isle has a lot to offer. This is my favorite spot in the city for nature photos. You can get a photo permit to take portraits all around the Island including the fountain, casino, and conservatory. There are a few points around Belle Isle where you can have the city in the background and be in nature.

4.DETROIT INSTITUTE OF ARTS

The DIA is a stunning building with marble, arches, gold doors, fountains, beautiful steps and lush trees around it. Walking around the building on the outside alone can get you nature and elegance. I love and recommend that my clients dress up for this location as the marble steps on John R are epic for a classy portrait.

5.EASTERN MARKET

The Eastern Market is an amazing location to visit on a Saturday morning to shop for fresh produce and local goods. Besides everything that this huge outdoor market has to offer, there are blocks of unique art on every wall with different colors and designs. A fun bonus in this district are the bars, breweries, and restaurants here. Supinos Pizza is a fun option to grab takeout for a quick pizza picnic half way through portraits to get more fuel to run around for more photos around all the art.
