Wedding Morning Tips | Creating a great start to your wedding day

Your wedding day can be full of so many events, emotions and things to do. Often times, you can forget about how you start your day. The morning of your wedding (and mornings in general) set the mood and tone for the rest of the day. I love lists and believe in setting yourself up for success - so here are my tips and lists to help you on the morning of your wedding day to help you have a great experience. These tips are helpful for small elopements, large weddings, and everything in between.

1. Prep your bag and details.

Before your wedding day make a list of what you need, and gather everything together. This way, on your wedding morning, everything is already together for you and ready to go. If your dress or suit needs to be steamed - you are not in a rush on your wedding day.

Some items that may be on your prep list are: Dress, veil, jewelry, suit, tie, shoes, cuff-links, watch, socks, underwear, special notes, perfume, cologne, deodorant, and anything you need on your person for your wedding.

Have the details that you want your photographer to take pictures of all gathered in one place. This allows you to continue on your morning without having to stop and find these things for them.

2. Go to bed at a reasonable hour

The night before your wedding - you should go to bed at a reasonable hour. This way you have the opportunity to get proper rest in before a full day.

3. Set an alarm

This may seem kinda basic, but you want to start your day on time so that the rest of your day can stay on schedule. You don’t want to rely on someone else/ one person to wake you up - so I would recommend setting an alarm and having someone else know what your goal is so they can help keep you accountable to your schedule too.

4. Have a clean space

If you have other people getting ready with you - delegate to someone else, if not informing everyone, to keep the space clean and tidy. A clean room can help for a clean headspace. Plus when things are in their place, it’s easier to find and creates less stress. If you want a perfectly clean space for your pictures, then the space should look clean. Photographers can be creative, but open clean spaces photograph well too.

Bonus within having a clean space, have designated area’s where things belong. If your details are important to you and you want them photographed - have them in a designated spot so it’s easy to find and hand off to your photographer. You prepped the space and got the things together, it helps if the space is clean so it’s easy to find them

5. Eat

Breakfast. Snacks. Lunch. Whatever - you should eat something. Your emotions may be high and you may not feel hungry - but your body needs energy or you will crash. Plan on eating something easy to have something in your system.

6. Create a playlist

Set the tone and get the energy you want in the room!

I know for me - personally - having a good podcast or playlist can really set the mood and energy in the room. If you want something that will keep you calm here is a playlist with ambient music. If you want something to pump you up - here is my favorite Happy Folk Spotify playlist for that. I had no idea what I wanted and just created a huge playlist of music that made me feel happy. This could be slow songs, Disney music, pop, whatever. But I wanted the option to skip and give variety. Here is my wedding morning playlist. If you use Spotify - I totally recommend saving/downloading the playlist so it’s available offline. This way the music can keep playing and keep the air filled.

7. Communicate with your Hair and Makeup team

You may think that hair and makeup may only take a certain amount of time - but it’s best to not assume and ask your professionals how much time it will take. And create your timeline based off of their numbers and allow yourself extra time! It’s better to have time to breathe than to feel rushed.

8. Relax and Enjoy!

You’ve spent so much time planning everything - let your hard work play out and enjoy every moment. List to yourself the good things, soak in every second and have fun! Let yourself listen to the music you want, drink the mimosa, tea, coffee, whatever you want to make your day the day YOU want.
